Using the SP50 sonic pile driver in silty/loose soils versus a diesel hammer has very different effects on marine life with both displacement piling and sheeting. The vibration with the high frequency (3000 VPM) and low amplitude (.375 inches) of the SP50 sonic pile driver, dissipates very quickly and can be felt only a few feet, at the most, from a driven piling. This distance is even less in the water. Fish have actually been observed swimming within 5 – 6 feet from a driven pole.
A diesel hammer is very different and does apply an extremely larger amplitude and lower amplitude that does cause fish to scatter.
